The annual NY2LA Sports Swish N’ Dish Spring Warm-Up wrapped up its 13th installment last weekend and once again the talent filled every age group in high level fashion. We continue our coverage with a look at more top performers from this past weekend in Wisconsin…
Top Performers
Mario McKinney – 2019 (Bradley Beal Elite 17u) - One of the highest motor max effort players of the tournament was the highly touted 2019 guard. McKinney had some of the more impressive ball handling I watched as he was creating his own space by using his creativity and cross overs. He is at his best when he is in transition because he can play above the rim and score so efficiently. The 6-2 guard was a key piece to the Bradley Beal Elite 17u team that won the championship.
Carrington McCaskill – 2019 (REACH Legends 17u) - McCaskill was one of the best athletes in the gym and the highest flyer I got the chance to watch. He is always playing above the rim as defenders were getting dunked on all weekend long and there was nothing they could do about it. The long athletic 6-7 forward was cleaning the glass on both ends of the floor but more importantly on the offensive side where he was converting them to points with easy tip ins and impressive put back dunks. Defensively he was blocking shots and protecting the rim as good as anyone I watched.
Reece Beekman – 2020 (Phenom University 16u) - One of the most impressive prospects of last weekend was showing it on both ends of the floor. Beekman was blowing by his defenders finishing around the rim, knocking down mid-range shots, and hitting from beyond the arc. The most impressive part of Beekman's performance was his ability to take over and determine the pace of the game. Defensively he was causing turnovers all weekend long and probably led the tournament in steals.
Michael Foster Jr – 2021 (Milwaukee Spartans 15u) - After cutting off his cast that was protecting a broken hand early Saturday morning Foster made his presence felt for the remainder of the tournament. Foster was most impressive defensively where he had at least 5 blocks in each of the three games I got the chance to watch him. Foster was still productive offensively knocking down some jumpers, scoring in the paint, and throwing down multiple dunks three of which were and1's. You could tell Foster wasn’t 100% but he was still very productive and that is just another reason why he is considered one of the top 2021 prospects in the country.
David Joplin – 2021 (Phenom University 15u) - Joplin was one of the more impressive 15u prospects last weekend as he was a key piece to the Phenom University 15u team that won the 15u platinum championship. Joplin was showing off a very improved skillset that was very hard to match up with because he has great strength and size standing at 6-6. Defensively he can guard multiple positions and he is very good at impacting and blocking shots using his length.
