The Minnesota native, Treyton Thompson, will be staying in his home state for college as he has committed to the University of Minnesota and head coach Richard Pitino. Thompson is a 6’11” junior power forward who currently plays for the La Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana.

Thompson announced his commitment with a lengthy twitter post on Saturday afternoon. His college pick comes after he recently took an official visit to the Minneapolis campus. In his commitment posting on twitter he called it a dream to represent Minnesota. As well saying that he fell in love with the state living there all of his life.

Thompson first jumped on the scene with a high caliber performance at the 2017 NY2LA Sports Futures Camp and the talented 2021 prospect never looked back.  He added a number of offers to his portfolio before the junior forward picked the Gophers over his other scholarship offers from Iowa, Oklahoma, and Texas Tech. Pitino and staff offered Thompson this past summer back in June. He is regarded as a top 100 2021 recruit in several national rankings. He is a skilled and lengthy big man that is able to stretch the floor well.

The junior is currently attending the powerhouse prep program La Lumiere. Thompson transferred there after previously attending Alexandria High School in Minnesota. He marks the first commitment in the Gophers 2021 recruitment class.
