One of the top remaining seniors from all of Indiana has made his college commitment. Over the weekend, Matthew Spears announced is plans to attend LeMoyne-Owen College. Spears is a 6’9” wing forward at Arsenal Tech High School and played with George Hill All Indy program.

The commitment comes after LeMoyne-Owen offered Spears just a few weeks ago. The senior picked them over his offers from Goshen, Indiana-South Bend, and Tulane plus interest from numerous programs.

There are a few factors that came into play in Spears’ commitment. “The top things for me is the culture and how it’s an HBCU and the coaching staff which the head coach is a former NBA player, Bonzie (Wells). Also, it being a good supporting system with the teachers and students,” Spears said.

Spears took a visit down to the Memphis, Tennessee campus recently before his commitment. “It was definitely a great visit,” he first said about the trip. “They’re definitely updating a lot of stuff which I really liked. How close everything is as far as Memphis University and the Grizzlies stadium are all very close connected. So, it was definitely a sight to see and really enjoyed the eye-opening culture they have. Definitely showed a lot of love.”

The senior is a high upside wing forward with all that he offers. Not only does he stand at 6’9” but is also very agile with a good all-around skill set. Spears can shoot the ball well spotting up from the outside as well to attacking the basket. There are not many players around with his combination of size and abilities.
