While it was a star studded first team for the 17U NY2LA Association this year, there was still plenty of talent on the second team. Many included have a legitimate case for the first team but just missed out. Here are the players that were voted upon for this year’s 17U second team all-association.

Demarion Burch – 2023 – G – Team Haliburton

Tournament after tournament, Burch proved to be one of the top scorers of the entire association. He is a physical and athletic 6’4” guard that score it in bunches from all three levels. He has such a great ability to create for himself in the mid-range but can also hit shots from the outside. With his play, Burch has drawn the interest of several division one coaches over the past few months. Bradley, Omaha, Robert Morris, Valparaiso, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee have all offered him recently. 

Gavyn Hurley – 2023 – G – Wisconsin Swing

The versatile guard was a key piece of all the success for this Swing team this season helping them be one of the top teams at the 17U level. Whether it be running the point, being an efficient and versatile scorer, or being an active defender, the lengthy and high IQ guard was making a big impact to win games for his team. Hurley has received several division two offers in addition to some division one interest. 

Tashun Pender – 2023 – F – Movement Hoops

One of the most electric players in the region, Pender had many highlight reel moments this season. The extremely bouncy wing forward has tremendously high upside. Each tournament he only continued to further his skills to be consistently scoring the ball at a high level and making an impact in a variety of ways. Pender should be a popular name amongst college coaches while attending We Are United Prep this upcoming year. 

Kamari Slaughter – 2023 – G – 94 Feet Elite 

There were only a few players that had as many big moments as Slaughter did this season. Not only is he a skilled all-around guard but has a great scoring ability who can create for himself. Whether it was game winning baskets or thirty point plus games, he was a huge reason for his team having a few undefeated tournaments this season against plenty of high level competition. 

Luther Smith Jr. - 2023 – G – MTXE Premier

Smith was one of the premier scoring guards on the association this season. A consistent scorer who kept putting up big numbers throughout the year for MTXE. He moves extremely well with the ball and has a great ability to create his own shot. With his consistent high level scoring ability, Smith was an easy selection for one of the top two teams. 

Danny Stephens – 2023 – F – MidPro Academy

While so much of the attention from this 17U MidPro Academy team may have been paid to his teammates, Stephens put together a tremendous season for himself. An incredibly consistent and impactful 6’7” wing forward that was a huge piece of his teams’ championships for the TGBA and NY2LA Association. Whatever his team needed, Stephens got it done and was always playing a huge role in helping his team win games. 

Nasir Whitlock – 2023 – PG – Gain Elite

Whitlock is a steady and high IQ point guard that is a true floor general. He was a skilled playmaker all season that not only can facilitate it at a high level but also score it himself in a variety of ways to earn his spot on to this team. Whitlock just announced his college commitment to Lehigh.
