The 7th annual Swish ‘N Dish Spring Warm-Up hit the hardwood in Wisconsin earlier this month as multiple high level prospects and programs took to the floor in front of many of the biggest scouting services in the country for three action packed days of hoops.  When the final whistle blew prospects like Kendrick Nunn solidified their status as must watch talents this spring and summer.  Here’s a look back at some of those prospects who boosted their stock in Milwaukee…

STOCK BOOSTERS
Jordan Barnett – 2014 – F – St. Louis, MO – St. Louis Eagles

Grabbed 16U MVP honors with a number of stellar performances on the weekend including a 15 point effort in the championship game victory over the Mac Irvin Fire.  Barnett showed range beyond the arc, a solid feel around the basket, a decent mid-range game, and solid floor leadership and energy on both ends. One to pay close attention to in the coming months.

Dalton Franken – 2013 – SG – Atlantic, IA – Kingdom Hoops Elite

A tough physical perimeter talent with range, Franken stepped up big throughout the weekend and showed an ability to score off the bounce, a mid-range skill set, and range beyond the arc in strong opening weekend performance.

Nick Fuller – 2013 – SG – Sun Prairie, WI – Wisconsin Swing

One of the top pure marksmen in the region, Fuller saved his best for last as he delivered a 15 point effort in a semi-final win over the Illinois Wolves and followed that up with a 20 point performance in the championship game loss to Meanstreets.  He has improved his ability to score off the bounce, can hit the mid-range pull up, and has the ability to take the game over from beyond the arc on occasion.

Jarvis Garrett – 2013 – PG – Milwaukee, WI – TP Elite

In one of the electric games of the tournament on opening night against CIA Bounce Garrett was stellar as his sliced through the open court to find teammates and deliver textbook passes throughout the game while finding ways to attack the rim with success off the bounce.  A strong floor leader with a pass first mentality, Garrett makes teams better and he showed that once again this past weekend.

Jahlil Okafor – 2014 – F/C – Chicago, IL – Mac Irvin Fire

The big strong interior talent continued to show his trademark dominance in the paint but he also displayed some improved agility and athleticism on occasion as well.  He ran the floor well for the most part, scored around the basket with ease on occasion, and continued to display an improved post skill package that has him regarded on some boards as the top sophomore in the country.

Xavier Rathan-Mayes – 2013 – SG – Brampton, ON – CIA Bounce

An opening night performance for the ages is what Mayes delivered in his Swish ‘N Dish debut as he served as the catalyst for a huge second half rally to help his squad overcome a gritty TP Elite team in overtime.  Mayes delivered 24 of his game high 32 points in the second half on a variety jumpers and blistered the nets for 6 trey balls in a performance that will go down as one of the all-time best in Swish ‘N Dish history.

A.J. Riley – 2013 – G/F – Peoria, IL – Illinois Wolves

A tough wing with instincts and skill who delivered a number of solid performances throughout the weekend.  He attacks the basket well in transition, can get to the line with consistency, and showed an ability to put the ball in the basket in a variety of ways.  Mix in solid instincts, nice energy, and solid defense and you have an excellent glue type guy who played well throughout the weekend and impressed in the process.

Matthew Thomas – 2013 – G – Onalaska, WI – WI Playmakers

Thomas had to leave the tournament early for personal reasons but that wasn’t before he impressed the scouts in attendance once again with his ability to knock down perimeter shots.  He delivered a number of solid efforts on Friday and Saturday but saved his best for last as he dropped 31 points in his final game of the tournament in a victory over the Playground Elite that included a number of baskets off dribble drive penetration and 4 trey balls.  Thomas excels in a catch and shoot basis but he also showed solid dribble penetration skills and an improved ability to score off the bounce throughout the weekend as he delivered a high major performance fitting of his high major status.

Moshawn Thomas – 2013 – PF – Chicago, IL – Meanstreets

Thomas was exceptional throughout the weekend as he delivered energy, strong interior play, rebounding, athleticism, etc. to help share 17U MVP honors and lead Meanstreets to the 17U Platinum Showcase Championship in the process.  Thomas was everywhere on the court at times as he found ways to contribute offensively and defensively with an exceptional overall floor effort from start to finish including, but not limited to, a 15 point effort in the championship game win over the Swing.

Duane Wilson Jr. – 2013 – PG – Milwaukee, WI – Playground Elite
(6-3/180/Dominican H.S.)
Delivered a huge performance throughout the weekend as he helped lead his squad to the 17U Silver Championship.  Opened things up with a 23 point effort in a 88-75 victory over the DeAngelo Russell led Louisville Magic and delivered his best performance of the weekend in a loss to the Wisconsin Playmakers on Saturday night as he countered Matt Thomas’s 31 point effort with a 35 point effort of his own that showed range, athleticism, etc. Wilson’s improvement athletically is noticeable and he served up a number of highlight reel dunks to reinforce that throughout the weekend.  A stellar overall performance for the Marquette commit who continues to reinforce his high major status as a prospect.

STAR WATCH
Deonte Burton – 2013 – SF – Milwaukee, WI – TP Elite
(6-5/235/Milwaukee Vincent H.S.)
Regarded by most as a top 25-50 prospect nationally, the Marquette commit delivered 14 in an opening night loss to CIA Bounce and showed his dominant rebounding, power, and athleticism in the process.

Kendrick Nunn – 2013 – SG – Chicago, IL – Meanstreets

Shared 17U MVP honors after leading Meanstreets to the 17U Platinum Showcase Championship with a team high 16 point performance in the final game and a number of solid efforts throughout the weekend.

Jabari Parker – 2013 – F – Chicago, IL – Mac Irvin Fire
(6-7/220/Simeon Career Academy)
The #1 prospect in the country returned to the hardwood fresh off of a state championship run for Simeon and wowed the crowd at times with highlight dunks, no look passes, etc.  As the weekend rolled along Parker continued to heat up and he delivered 17 point performance in a come from behind quarterfinal victory over the All-Ohio Red that was one of the best games of the tournament.

Kevon Looney – 2014 – SF – Milwaukee, WI – Milwaukee Rebels

He is virtually unstoppable off the dribble at times as he scores at the rim, hits the mid range stroke, and finishes in a variety of ways that are tough to defend given his length and versatility.  One of the premiere wings in the country for the 2014 class, Looney was consistent throughout the weekend and stellar on occasion once again.

Cliff Alexander – 2014 – F/C – Chicago, IL – Drose All-Stars

A tough powerful interior prospect with bounce, Alexander was a man amongst boys at times playing in the 16U division as he delivered dominant double double performances from start to finish.  He scores on blocks, powers home dunks, blocks shots, runs the floor, and attacks the glass on both ends and reinforced his high major elite status with quality efforts throughout the tournament.

Luke Fischer – 2013 – F/C – Germantown, WI – Wisconsin Swing

The Indiana commit jumped right into the fire so to speak on opening night as he lined up across the likes of Parker, Hamilton, Okafor, etc. but the talented interior prospect didn’t back down as he delivered a 14 point 12 rebound effort in a losing effort.  He followed that up with a host of stellar performances throughout the weekend to help lead his team to the 17U title game.

D'Angelo Russell – 2014 – SG – Louisville, KY – Louisville Magic
(6-4/180/Montverde Academy
A silky smooth scoring talent with range beyond the arc, Russell can knock down jumpers off the break, scores in transition, hits the mid-range jumper, and scores on a variety of floaters as well.  He was solid at times on the weekend and showed some old school to his versatile scoring package that makes him a very tough cover anytime he takes the floor.

BREAKOUT PERFORMERS
Jubril Adekoya – 2013 – F – Chicago, IL – Meanstreets

Delivered a number of big time performances on the weekend and served as one of the integral parts in the Meanstreets 17U championship run.  Scored 17 points on opening night and set to the tone early that he was there on business and when the ball stopped bouncing he shared 17U MVP honors with an energy filled tough quality floor effort throughout the weekend.  

Keondre Dew - 2014 - SF - Yucaipa, CA - Inland Empire
(6-9/185/Impact BB Academy)
A long wiry wing with some solid skill and instinct, Drew delivered a number of solid performances that featured an ability to put the ball in the basket in transition, a decent stroke, and a versatile and improving offensive package that could be a sign of some big things to come.  A solid opening weekend performance for the talented wing from the west coast.

Chris Golden – 2012 – G – Milwaukee, WI – TP Elite

An undersized scoring guard by most accounts, Golden is electric at times when he gets it going and one need only witness his 28 point performance against CIA Bounce on opening night to see what he’s capable of when clicking on all cylinders.  The unsigned senior drained 6 trey balls and scored in bunches in arguably his best performance to date and he continued to perform at a high level throughout the weekend as he showcased his range, mid-range pull up, and ability to attack the rim and finish off the bounce.

2012 SWISH 'N DISH NEWS AND NOTES
Kendrick Nunn, Jaylon Tate, Moshawn Thomas and Jubril Odekoya shared 17U MVP honors after leading Meanstreets to the 17U Platinum Showcase Championship over the Wisconsin Swing.  Meanstreets delivered a balanced team effort throughout the weekend that was filled with energy, toughness, defense, and unselfishness play.

Jordan Barnett captured 16U MVP honors after leading the St. Louis Eagles to the 16U Platinum Showcase Championship with a victory over the Mac Irvin Fire.  He was stellar throughout the weekend and came up big on Sunday in the later rounds of the tournament.

2015 PF Darion King grabbed 15U MVP honors after leading the Playground Elite to the 15U Platinum Championship over the Illinois Wolves.  He was dominant throughout the weekend as he controlled the glass and dominated the paint on both ends including a 23 point effort in the championship game victory over the Wolves.
